|The draft order has been determined and two Wildcats are in the top 15 of ESPN s updated mock 2018 NBA Draft following Tuesday s NBA Draft Lottery in Chicago.
Jonathan Givony of ESPN has Kentucky Jonny David Jersey freshman point guard Shai Gilgeous Alexander projected No. 12 overall to the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Clippers could be looking at point guard as a position in need of supplementing, and the size, length and versatility of Gilgeous Alexander could be attractive here considering the type of lineup flexibility he brings, Givony wrote.
The fact that he is 6 6 with a 7 foot wingspan , instinctual defensively and unselfish makes him easy to slot in alongside virtually any type of player. His offense has made significant strides as the season has moved on, helping him surprisingly emerge as arguably Kentucky s best long term prospect.
Gilgeous Alexander averaged 14.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game for the Wildcats as a freshman last season and among UK freshmen all time https://www.kentuckywildcatscenter.com/sacha-killeyajones-jersey-c-2.html, ranks third in assists 189 , third in steals 61 , ninth in free throw percentage 81.7 and 10th in made free throws 143 .
Givony projects UK freshman forward Kevin Knox to join fellow Wildcat John Wall at No. 15 overall to the Washington Wizards.
With Markieff Morris approaching the final year of his contract, the Wizards could very well start thinking of supplementing their power forward position with a player who fits the modern game, Givony wrote.
Knox didn t have an efficient freshman season, partially due to playing out of position https://www.kentuckywildcatscenter.com/deaaron-fox-jersey-c-1.html, but there s a significant market in the NBA for combo forwards in his mold who can make an open shot , defend multiple positions and offer offensive versatility. He s one of the youngest players in this draft, so he still has plenty of room to grow.
Knox was named First Team All SEC and co SEC Freshman of the Year after leading the Wildcats in scoring at 15.6 points per game and made 3s with 57 along with 5.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
He finished among the top 10 scorers in Kentucky basketball history with 576 points. His 34 points in a win at No. 7 West Virginia Jan. 27 are tied for the sixth most ever by a UK freshman.
Givony has Kentucky freshman shooting guard Hamidou Diallo projected 40th to the Brooklyn Nets. Diallo averaged 10 points and 3.6 rebounds per game this season.
Gilgeous Alexander, Knox, Diallo and PJ Washington are all in Chicago at the NBA Draft Combine. Jarred Vanderbilt, meanwhile https://www.kentuckywildcatscenter.com/edrice-adebayo-jersey-c-3.html, declined the invitation.
The 2018 NBA Draft will take place June 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
